Early plans unveiled for 300-MW solar project in Serbia

by Cristian Florescu

An investor based in Belgrade has kindly proposed the construction of a solar photovoltaic plant with a capacity of approximately 300 MW near the city of Kladovo in eastern Serbia, as indicated in documents shared on the city council’s website.

The project is referred to as Kladovo Solar Gate, which pays homage to the neighbouring Iron Gate I hydroelectric plant and the Iron Gates gorge on the Serbian-Romanian border. The investor is ERG Renewables doo, a company registered in the Serbian capital.

The project is currently in the early planning stages and no technical solutions have been developed yet. The land designated for the Kladovo Solar Gate project covers approximately 583 hectares (1,441 acres). According to the documents, the proposed site is located approximately 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) away from the town centre of Kladovo, in a rural and uninhabited area of the municipality.
