Hungarian Police Dealt with More Than 800 Migrants in Just One Day

Police officers on duty detained a total of 579 border crossers on Monday and prevented 258 people from illegally entering Hungary, writes Hungary Today

In Bács-Kiskun County, police officers arrested 101 border crossers in 17 cases; in Csongrád-Csanád County, 343 border crossers in 43 cases. In Győr-Moson-Sopron County, 69 migrants were arrested in nine cases, while in Pest County, 35 migrants were arrested in two cases; in Komárom-Esztergom County, three in one case; and in Budapest, 28 border crossers were arrested in three instances.

The apprehended illegal immigrants claimed to be Eritrean, Turkmen, Palestinian, Algerian, Syrian, Iraqi, Moroccan, Tunisian, Afghan, Indian, Libyan, Pakistani, Nepali, or Turkish nationals, but could not provide credible proof of their identity or the legality of their stay in Hungary. In accordance with the applicable Hungarian legislation, they were escorted by police back to the temporary security border crossing.

On Monday, criminal proceedings were initiated in nine cases for human smuggling on Hungarian territory.
