Hungarian Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, stated that Hungary would veto a possible proposal to impose sanctions on a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Milorad Dodik, write sarajevotimes.com
“We are concerned about such statements because BiH is close to us, preserving stability and peace in the country is our basic security interest. Berlin is further, but not so far that you could never fly to Banja Luka from there. Fly and negotiate. Talk to Serbs. With them, not about them. Maybe this will help you understand the situation,” Szijarto wrote on his official Facebook profile.
Furthermore, he added that the European Union (EU) can impose sanctions against anyone only by a unanimous decision of all member states.
“And just to be clear, Hungary will not give its support to any sanctions against the leader of the Serbs in BiH, Milorad Dodik. If there is such a proposal, we will veto it. Talk, not sanctions, that is what the EU’s policy for the Western Balkans should be about in the future,” the Hungarian minister pointed out.
