Funding for the early elections for the President of Republika Srpska has yet to be secured, raising questions about whether the electoral process will proceed as planned.
According to official estimates, the elections require 6.4 million KM, an amount that was to be provided by the Minister of Finance of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Srđan Amidžić, within a 15-day deadline. That deadline expired last Friday without the necessary funds being released.
Responsibility Shifted to Deputy Minister
The responsibility for signing the decision now falls to Amidžić’s deputy, Muhamed Hasanović, who has previously stated that he would authorise the release of funds as soon as all procedural conditions are fulfilled.
Hasanović confirmed to BHRT that the procedures are still pending completion, but assured that once the ministry secretary prepares the relevant documents, he will proceed with the signature.
CEC Unable to Proceed Without Funding
The Central Election Commission (CEC) cannot begin preparations for the vote until the financial decision is signed. This has generated public concern that missed deadlines might jeopardise the organisation of the elections.
For now, the CEC has scheduled the elections for 23 November, but uncertainty remains over whether the financial and administrative steps will be completed in time.
