Mateusz Morawiecki, the Polish prime minister, has called for “far-reaching” sanctions on Russia and arms supplies to Ukraine in response to reports of the Russian use of chemical weapons, writes The First News
Ukraine’s Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Malyar said on Tuesday that Ukraine had been checking unverified information that Russia might have used chemical weapons while besieging the southern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol.
“There are more and more reports confirming the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine,” Morawiecki said on Tuesday, adding that this was another line in Russia’s criminal activity, which Putin and his colleagues had no hesitation in crossing.
“That is why what is needed now are far-reaching sanctions and arms deliveries to Ukraine,” Morawiecki stated.
According to the prime minister, the Kremlin regime can only be defeated by means of military operations and economic measures.
“Ukrainian soldiers have been fighting against the brutal Kremlin force,” he said.
“And Russia’s economic defeat should be carried out by the free world, the European Union, the US and all countries which understand that the violation of geopolitical principles and international law is a threat to peace, security and stable life,” the prime minister continued.
Morawiecki said that “Russia must be aware of the fact that the West and the free world would bow neither to pressure nor blackmail.”
According to the prime minister, severe sanctions on Russia are only a small sacrifice for the West while Ukraine has been sacrificing its blood “defending its sovereignty as well as the security of Poland and the EU’s eastern area.”
