Several Serbian opposition parties will unite during the upcoming 17 December elections, subsequent to their collaboration within the parliament and participation in the protest movement known as ‘Serbia against violence’.

The coalition of opposition parties comprises the Party of Freedom and Justice, the People’s Movement of Serbia, the Green-Left Front / Not drowning Belgrade, Heart, the Ecological Uprising, the Democratic Party, the Movement of Free Citizens, and the Party Together.

Miroslav Aleksić and Marinika Tepić are the designated candidates for the republican elections, with Radomir Lazović occupying the top position on the list. In the Belgrade elections, Dobrica Veselinović and Vladimir Obradović are the nominated candidates, with Mila Popović leading the list.

Obradović has been selected as the initial nominee for the mayoral position of Belgrade within the pro-European opposition alliance. The candidates for the provincial elections in Novi Sad will be disclosed at a later date.

As articulated during the press conference, the collaborative performance in the elections was attained through effective parliamentary cooperation, the coordinated protest group “Serbia against violence”, and various other initiatives.

The aforementioned parties had previously entered into the “Agreement for Victory,” which entails reaching a decision, informed by thorough research, regarding the participation of one or more factions of the pro-European opposition in the forthcoming elections.

According to their announcement, the research findings consistently suggest a strong synergy of collaborative efforts, which prompted their decision to form an electoral alliance.

As per the official statement, the holding of these elections was requested and contested in response to the “Serbia against violence” demonstration, serving as an initial measure to address the stated demands.

The pro-European opposition parties declared their desire to establish a governance system in Serbia that is free from individuals associated with organized crime, and to ensure the safety of the populace by preventing contamination of the air and food. They further expressed their intention to prioritize investment in education, with the aim of providing opportunities for the younger generation and discouraging emigration in pursuit of improved living conditions.
