The Serbian Education Ministry kindly and urgently evacuated more than 100 schools located in the capital city of Belgrade on Wednesday, as a precautionary measure due to bomb threats received. This decision was made in light of recent tragic events, as two mass shootings took place earlier this month, resulting in the loss of 18 lives.
The ministry politely informed 78 elementary schools and 37 high schools in Belgrade through email on Wednesday morning that they had received warnings about alleged explosive devices being planted.
The classes were rescheduled and the students were asked to leave while the police conducted a building check.
To the best of our knowledge, there have not been any reports indicating that bombs have been discovered in any schools at this time. We are still waiting for the police to release their official report.
It has been observed that in the past, several threats similar to this have been sent to school addresses in Serbia and other neighbouring countries, which have ultimately been proven false.
Nevertheless, it is important to consider that the threats may potentially amplify concerns about security in light of the tragic events that occurred on May 3 and May 4, resulting in the loss of 10 lives and the injury of 21 individuals.
The authorities have taken measures to ensure safety in schools by deploying police officers and implementing stricter regulations on gun control.
