Serbia will align with EU visa policies

by Cristian Florescu

President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday that Serbia would align with European Union visa policies to stop illegal movements towards the West.

“Serbia will align with EU visa policies significantly by the end of the year and Serbia will not be used as a country of arrival as some do now not out of a real need by out of a need for illegal migration towards the West,” he told reporters in Budapest after a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer.

According to Vucic, Serbia is specific in terms of migration because it attracts migrants from the Middle East and Refugees from Russia and Ukraine. He said that refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan are reaching Serbia again along with an increasing number of people from Russia. “We have some 17,000 people from Russia with one-year residence permits. All that is a burden for a relatively small country like Serbia,” he said.
