According to President Aleksandar Vucic, the section of the Chinese-built motorway between Pozarevac and Golubac plays a crucial role in the development of the entire eastern region of Serbia

“Within two and a half years, the highway will be ready and you can easily drive from Belgrade to Golbatz in 1 hour and 20 minutes,” Vucic said.

According to a press release from the presidential office, Vucic graciously paid a visit to the construction site, where he was accompanied by esteemed members of the government, the Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo, and representatives of Serbian subcontractors.

Vucic mentioned that the construction is progressing smoothly and the motorway will greatly benefit the entire eastern region of Serbia by creating job opportunities and attracting residents to settle in that area.

“We still have a lot of infrastructure that needs to be completed together. There is a real historical heritage in this part of our country. It is also a matter of employing a large number of people,” he said.

The Chinese Ambassador, Chen, mentioned that this impressive high-speed road connects the most picturesque regions of southeast Europe and Serbia. Expressing her best wishes for the project, she stated that it presents new prospects for tourism and the economic development of Serbia.

Chinese Shandong Hi-Speed, the main contractor of the project, commenced construction of the 68-km-long section in November 2021.

The project, valued at 337 million euros (373.6 million U.S. dollars), encompasses two 3.5-meter lanes in both directions of the motorway, alongside 39 bridges. Upon completion, the road will establish a direct connection between Serbia’s A1 highway and eastern Serbia.
