Members of the Russian mercenary Wagner Group work with Serbian paramilitaries to smuggle weapons in Kosovo for a potential hybrid attack by Serbia to grab Kosovan territory, Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani told The Telegraph, writing The Kyiv Independent
Serbia is allegedly trying to create conditions for a possible annexation, according to Osmani. This is something they want to do without openly declaring it as a military operation.
The smuggling of unmarked military uniforms is similar to the Russian annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea in 2014 when Russian soldiers invaded Crimea without identifying themselves.
The Wagner Group is a Russian mercenary group that was founded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a Russian oligarch and an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The group is one of the most high-profile mercenary groups in Russia.
Wagner has fought alongside the Russian regular army in the battles for Soledar and Bakhmut in the eastern Ukrainian Donetsk Oblast.
The group has been accused of human rights abuses in numerous countries, including torture and extrajudicial killings.
